Hugh Green
1980 Lombardi Award winner
A the University of Pittsburgh, Green was defensive end who started immediately
as a freshman in 1977. By the time his career at Pittsburgh was complete, he had
racked up 53 sacks, won the 1980 Maxwell and Lombardi Awards, named the 1980 Walter
Camp Player of the Year, and was the UPI player of the year and the runner-up for
the Heisman Trophy to George Rogers. An all-pro linebacker in the NFL, he was inducted
into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996. As a linebacker for the Tampa Bay
Buccaneers, Green was a Pro Bowler in 1982 and '83.
