Darrell Griffith
1980 college basketball player of the year
"Dr. Dunkenstein" defied gravity to lead the Louisville Cardinals to 1980 NCAA crown. The leading scorer in University of Louisville men's basketball history, in 1980, Griffith averaged 22.9 points for a U of L team that went 33-3 and beat UCLA for the national title. Griffith scored 23 points in the tense, 59-54 title game. As a pro, Griffith was 1980-81 NBA Rookie of the Year with the Utah Jazz, the only team he played for professionally. In 11 years in the NBA, he averaged 16.2 points. After his career, Utah retired his jersey.
