Connie Hawkins
Member of the Basketball Hall of Fame
A popular New York City playground player, Hawkins was banned from the N.B.A. for a connection to an alleged gambler, Hawkins played for the A.B.L. and later the Harlem Globetrotters (1963-'67). Hawkins was a member of the A.B.A.'s first championship team, the Pittsburgh Pipers and he won the league M.V.P. that season. He joined the N.B.A.'s Phoenix Suns the following year and played in the next four N.B.A. All-Star Games. He spent two seasons with the Lakers and one with the Hawks before retiring. Despite his late arrival in the spotlight, Hawkins still made enough of an impact to earn a spot in the Basketball Hall of Fame
