1976 Formula One World Driving Champion

Hunt was the stereotypical Formula One driver. Talented and gregarious, Hunt typified the playboy image. The son of a stockbroker, Hunt was raised with money and initially studied to be a doctor. He became a race car driver and was given a ride in Formula One in 1973 with Hesketh at the age of 25. He finished second in the season's final grand prix race in Watkins Glen. In 1975, he won his first race in the Netherlands and finished fourth in the overall standings. Racing for Marlboro, Hunt won six races in 1976, en route to the World Driver's Championship. He won three times the following year and finished fifth in the standings. After an 8th place overall finish in 1978, Hunt scored no points in eight races in 1979 and retired from racing. Following his career he became a successful and popular television commentator. Hunt died of a heart attack at his home in Wimbledon in 1993, he was 45 years old.
