Jackson first came to prominence at the 1986 Commonwealth Games where the 19 year-old won a silver medal. Jackson won the bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships in Rome and a silver at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. In 1990, Jackson won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. He finished 7th at the 1992 Olympics and set a world record of 12.91 second in winning the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart. Jackson again won the Commonwealth Games and the European Championships in 1994 and finished foruth at the 1996 Olympics. He was silver medalist at the 1997 World Championships and won the 1998 European Championships. Jackson won another World Championship in 1999 in Seville and was fifth at the Olympics in Sydney. He capped his international career with a record fourth European Championship in 2002.
