1972 Olympic Springboard Champion
In first place after eight dives on the 3 meter springboard at the 1968 Olympics, King hit the board on her ninth dive and broke her left forearm. She completed her final dive, but dropped to fourth place. In Munich in 1972 she won the gold medal, taking the lead with her eighth dive. She finished 5th on the 10 meter platform event in Munich. King won silver medals on the springboard at the 1967 and '71 Pan American Games. She is a member of the United States Olympic Hall of Fame and the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
