Steve Lundquist
Two-time Olympic Swimming Champion
Lundquist was one of the best American swimmers in 1980, but lost out due to the boycott. In 1984, he qualified second at the Olympic trials in his specialty, the 100 meter breaststroke. In the morning trials, his teammate and world record holder, John Moffet set and Olympic record of 1:02.16, but had pulled a thigh muscle in the process. Moffet was obviously not at full strength in the final, but Lundquist was, he set a world record of 1:01.65 to win the gold medal. Lundquist also finished fifth in the 200 meter individual medley and won another gold medal as part of the 4x100 meter medley relay team.
