Two-time All-Star
McGraw was signed by the New York Mets out of high school and debuted with the club a year later. He was second in the National League in saves in 1972 and '73. Traded to the Philadelphia Phillies after the 1974 season, McGraw was a key player in helping the Phillies win their only World Series. In 1980, he recorded 20 saves with a 1.46 E.R.A. and recorded the final out of the series. McGraw retired after the 1984 season. A member of two World Series winners, with the New York Mets in 1969 and the Philadelphia Phillies in 1980, the flamboyant McGraw was best known for his slogan with the Mets, "You Gotta Believe." McGraw was an All-Star in 1972 and 1975 and finished his career with 180 saves. McGraw passed away from brain cancer in 2004. His son, Tim, is a well know Country music artist.
