Edwin Moses
Two-time Olympic Champion, 400 Meter Hurdles
Widely regarded as the greatest 400 Meter Hurdler of all-time, Moses won the 1976 Olympics in a world record time of 47.63. The Olympics was his first international meet. Moses lost to Harald Schmid in August 27, 1977 and would not lose again until June 4, 1987. His streak included an amazing 107 finals. Moses won the World Cup in 1977, '79 and '81. He won the World Championship in 1983 and '87 and another Olympic gold in 1984. Moses set two more world records in 1980 and another in 1983. In 1980 he was voted as the Track and Field News Athlete of the Year, despite not competing in the Olympics due to the Carter boycott. He was the Sullivan Award winner in 1983 and was ranked number one in the world in the 400 Meter Hurdles nine times (1976-'81, '83, '84 and '87). Moses tried to extend his career and despite winning the 1988 Olympic Trials, he was beaten by fellow American Andre Phillips at the Seoul Olympics. Moses competed in another Olympics in Albertville in 1992 as a pusher of the two-man bobsled.
