Dan O'Brien
1996 Olympic Decathlon Champion
O'Brien won the 1991 World Championship to establish himself as the favorite for the 1992 Olympics. However, O'Brien failed to qualify for the Olympic team when he was unable to clear a height in the pole vault. Later in 1992 he established a world record of 8,891 points. O'Brien won the 1993 and '95 World Championships and capped his career with the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics.
