Park was the second overall pick in the 1966 N.H.L. amateur draft, selected by the New York Rangers. He began playing for the Rangers in 1968. Park was made the assistant captain and briefly served as their captain. In 1972, Park led the Rangers to the Stanley Cup finals, the same year he was runner-up for the Norris Trophy and was named M.V.P. in the 1972 Summit Series. In 1975-'76, Park was traded to the Boston Bruins. In 1977 and '78, Park went with Boston to the Stanley Cup finals but lost to Montreal both times. In 1984, Park signed with the Detroit Red Wings as a free agent and won the Bill Masterson Trophy for perseverance that same year. After the 1985 season he announced his retirement and the next year he briefly served as Detroit's coach. In 1988 Park was elected in his first year of eligibility to the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was a first team N.H.L. All-Star in 1970, '72, '74, '76 and '78 and played in nine All-Star Games.
