Mike Powell
Two-time Olympic Silver medalist
Mike Powell emerged as a world class long jumper with a silver medal at the 1988 Olympics. He would challenge Carl Lewis for the next several seasons, narrowly losing to Lewis at the 1991 National Championships. However, at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, Powell ended Lewis' 10 year winning streak and broke Bob Beamon's 23 year old world record with a leap of 29 feet 4 1/2 inches. Powell finished second to Lewis again at the 1992 Olympics, won the 1993 World Championships, and finished 5th at the 1996 Olympics.
