Five-time Olympic Champion
Schollander became the first swimmer to win four gold medals at one Olympics in 1964 by winning the 100 and 400 meter freestyle events, and 4x100 and 4x200 meter freestyle relays. His accomplishments in Tokyo led him to be selected as the Sullivan Award winner for 1964. Schollander then attended Yale University and was a member of the Skull and Bones secret society with future President George W. Bush. He won three N.C.A.A. championships in 1968 and added his fifth hold medal in the 4x200 meter freestyle relay in 1968.
