1972 Wimbledon Champion
Smith won the Wimbledon championship in 1972 and the United States Open championship once in 1969. In 1972 he was the World No. 1 player for the year. With doubles partner Bob Lutz, Smith won the U.S. Open in 1968, '74, '78 and '80 and the Australian Open in 1970. In his career, Smith won 35 singles and 54 doubles titles. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987.
