Peter Snell
Three time Olympic champion
The New Zealand native won the 800 meter gold at the 1960 Olympics as a complete unknown. In the next four years, he dominated track & field. In 1962 he set world records of 3:54.4 in the mile, 1:44.3 for 800 meters. He won the 800 again in Tokyo in 1964 and also captured the 1500 meters. He was ranked number one in the world by Track & Field News at 800 meters in 1960, '61, '62 and '64 and 1500 Meters in 1962, '63 & '64.
