Alberto Tomba

Three-time Olympic skiing champion

Tomba first came to prominence winning a giant slalom bronze medal at the 1987 World Championships and exploded with gold medals at the 1988 Olympics in both the slalom and the giant slalom. At the 1992 Olympics, Tomba became the first skiier to win gold medals at two Olympics, capturing the giant slalom and also taking a silver medal in the slalom. He won another slalom silver in then 1994 slalom. Tomba won the overall World Cup title in the 1994-'95 season, despite only skiing two events. Tomba won his first World Championship gold medals in 1996 in Sierra Nevada in both the slalom and giant slalom. Tomba competed at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, but came away without a medal. In his career, Tomba won fifteen giant slaloms and 35 slalom races.
