1976 Olympic 500 Meter Champion; Three-Time World Cycling Champion
Winner of 3 medals at the 1976 Winter Olympics, Young won gold at 500 meters, silver at 1500 and bronze at 1000. At the 1972 Winter Olympics, she was fourth at 500 meters and 17th at 1000 meters. She was the World Sprint Speed Skating Champion in 1973, 1975 and 1976. Young also won the World Cycling Championships in the 1000 meter match sprint in 1973, 1976 and 1981. As a speed skater, she was bronze medalist in the Allround at the World Championships in 1975 and '76. her daughter, Elli Ochowicz, competing in speed skating at the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
