2000 MEN'S FINAL

Jason Sehorn returned to win the Superstars for the third consecutive year, becoming only the third athlete to capture three titles. He won four events to easily outdistance the field by 19 1/2 points. Shaun Palmer became the first X-Games athlete to compete in Superstars and was impressive in his debut with a win in the first event, kayaking. Steve Beuerlein, in his second Superstars appearance, won the golf event and was then second behind Sehorn in the swimming. Sehorn won the swimming for the thrid year in a row. Beuerlein also picked up a win in basketball. Simeon Rice won the weight lifting with a lift of 270 pounds. Shaun Palmer pulled away from Hermann Maier to win the bike race. Sehorn won the half mile run and the Sea-Doo which clinched victory after just eight events. Terrell Owens outleaned Michael Westbrook in the 100 yard dash and Sehorn captured the obstacle course. Hermann Maier took second place overall with four second place finishes in the last five events. Dallas Cowboy lineman Eric Williams had one of the worst performance in Superstars history. He scored just 2 1/2 points and finished last in six events, the seventh of his events, the Sea Doo he finished next to last. He did not finish the kayak or the bike race, he failed to lift 200 pounds in the weight lifting, scored just four points in basketball, and ran the half mile in about four minutes. Comparing Sehorn's performances in winning three Superstars championships against previous champions is difficult. He won each title convincingly, was able to win a variety of events and displayed great consistency. Yet, the performance level in many events was down. His half mile win here was in 2:45.47, nearly 48 seconds off the Superstars record, and clearly half a minute slower than the times of most half mile winners. He never had to face a preliminary round, so his wins came against competition normally found in Superstars preliminaries, and Mike Schmidt won three preliminaries.
