2005 BRITISH SUPERSTARS MASTERS FINAL
John Regis, in his third appearance in Superstars, edged out the rest of the field to win the first ever Masters Superstars in Great Britain and qualified for the final. This was a competition that ebbed and flowed with first Ellery Hanley taking the lead, and then after a superlative display in the football test, Regis took the lead and was never to look back. His other win came in the shot put, with a Superstars record of 12.60m. Controversy surrounded the kayaking event as competitors ran out of their lanes, and after a video adjudication, referee Jeff Winter disqualified both Martin Offiah and John Barnes for crossing lanes and impeding Jonathan Davies, who eventually finished second in the re-run. Davies also excelled in the gym tests, where his 91 dips came close to beating Brian Jacks' long standing world record of 100. Tim Foster's two wins, both in the cross country where it was a close race between himself and Bryan Robson, and in the mountain bike, showed that the sport of rowing certainly isn't lacking in qualities for Superstars. As Masters Champion, Regis now awaits the other nine finalists (the top three from his heat) to go to the final.
