1980 MEN'S FINAL
Charles White won the closest Superstars finish to date, a margin of 1 3/4 points over Russ Francis. There were many brand new finalists as defending champion Greg Pruitt was injured and unable to compete. The level of competition was down from the last couple of years, as the winning lift in weight lifting was only 250 and no one broke 10 seconds in the 100 yard dash. No records were set. The championship came down to the obstacle course as five men could win the title. Francis beat Hogan, eliminating him. White beat Theismann, eliminating Theismann and Francis. Phil Garner still had a chance, but he tried to hurdle the high bar and knocked it over, giving the overall title to White. Once again, the finals were shown over a two-week period. Broadcast of the second week was joined in progress because it was televised the same day that the United States Olympic Hockey team defeated Finland for the gold medal. The half mile and the 100 yard dash heats were not shown.
