There were no preliminaries for the Superstars in 1983, so the World Series winners the St. Louis Cardinals faced the Super Bowl champion Washington Redskins. In a back and forth affair, the Redskins won the first two events, the Cardinals the next three, and then the Redskins won the final two to take the title. Many of the Cardinals best players; Keith Hernandez, Ozzie Smith, Lonnie Smith, Bruce Sutter; did not compete as another indication of the decline of Superstars where high salaried players have little desire to participate.
