1986 MEN'S PRELIMINARY #1
A preliminary filled with great athletes, furture two-time champion Herschel Walker failed to qualify for the finals, finishing seventh. Renaldo Nehemiah, now a San Francisco 49er wide receiver, came back three years after winning his third championship. By qualifying as a football player, Nehemiah was allowed to enter the 100 yard dash. Greg Louganis set a record in diving, and many other performances were top class. This set the stage for a potentially great final.
