1990 MEN'S PRELIMINARY #2
In a very closely fought preliminary, one of only two football players, Dave Meggett of the New York Giants used his speed and strength to win the weightlifting, 100 yard dash and obstacle couse to capture the preliminary. Eight of the ten atheltes scored at least 20 points and all but Pedro Guerrero had a chance to qualify for the finals entering the obstacle course. Evander Holyfield equaled his record low of 3 points in basketball, but he was underscored by Pedro Guerrero with just two points. NBC was shortened by time restrictions and did not show either tennis or bowling. Kevin McReynolds secured the final qualifying spot when Heisman Trophy winner Andre Ware knocked over the high bar in the obstacle course.
