1972-1976

While Seattle was trying to get another major league team after the Pilots left town, the Cincinnati Reds brought baseball back to the emerald city. This time it was a class A team playing in the Northwestern League. The new Seattle Rainiers began play in 1972 once again in Sick's Stadium. During this time the city was more interested in winning back a major league team than following a minor league club. Seattle was involved in a lawsuit against the American League for allowing the Pilots to move and trying to find a major league club wanting to move themselves. While none of these players became a household name, one of these new Rainiers did make a name for himself in Hollywood. Casey Sander, a Nathan Hale High School graduate, played a few years in the California Angels system before coming back to Seattle to play outfield for the Rainiers. Soon, though, his career ended due to leg injuries. After baseball he began acting and is currently on "Grace Under Fire" on ABC.
