Finland

As Finland was part of tsarist Russia at the end ot the 1800's it is probably no surprise that bandy was imported to Finland from Russia. The Finnish Championhsips started in 1908 with clubs from Viipuri (today in Russia) and Helsinki initially dominating. Today the stongholds are Helsinki, Varkaus, Kemi, Tornio, Pori, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Lappenranta, but the most successful club is still Viipurin Sudet (Wolves) with 14 championships.

Finland has participated in all World Championships along with Sweden and Russia (Soviet Union) but has never won the tournament but has won the silver six times (1957, 1963, 1967, 1987, 1989 and 1999).
