Saturday Evening Post, The
(DATED DEATH
TOPIC)
- The Saturday Evening Post began life as a 4-page newspaper with no illustrations on 4th August 1821. It existed for 70 years until poor circulation caused its owners to sell the weekly paper to Cyrus Curtis, publisher of the Ladies' Home Journal. He converted the Post to a weekly magazine as well, with emphasis on business, public affairs, and romance. The first issue in this format appeared in January 1898. The Post became extremely popular for decades - and in addition to articles published fiction - for example Jack London's Call of the Wild, the works of H.G. Wells, Melville Davisson Post and G. K. Chesteron to name a few. Its cover art for many years was famous as being produced by American artist Norman Rockwell. The magazine ceased publication in 1971. It has recently been revived.
