Sydney Australia

We live in Sydney. Its Australia's largest city. A lot of people ask me what Sydney is like, so I made this page for you to come and see for your selves. I hope you enjoy your visual tour of Sydney :)

Sydney City Sky Line.

Location: Sydney is located on the southeast coast of Australia. Australian Eastern Standard time is GMT plus 10 hours. The seasons are reversed in Australia. When it is summer in Northern Hemisphere, it is winter in Australia. Early Beginings: In 1768, Captain James Cook began a search for the "great south land". Traveling in the wake of other European explorers, he was the first to set foot on the east coast of the land the Dutch had named New Holland. He landed at Botany Bay in 1770, naming the coast New South Wales. At the suggestion of Sir Joseph Banks, a penal colony was established to relieve Britain's overflowing prison system.

Sydney Harbour Bridge.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge is one of Sydney's most famous landmarks. Completed in 1932, the construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge was an economic feat as well as an engineering triumph. Prior to the Bridge being built, the only links between the city centre in the south and the residential north were by ferry or by a 20 km (12 ½ mile) road route that involved five bridge crossings. The Harbour Bridge, known as the "Coat Hanger", took eight years to build, including the railroad line.

The Opera House

No building on earth looks like the Sydney Opera House. Covering almost 1.82ha (4.5 acres) the Opera House is Sydney's most popular tourist attraction, and is also one of the worlds busiest performing arts centres. But the Opera House is more than a just tourist attraction, it is a presence, a part of the landscape that seems to have been there forever, and it is impossible to imagine the Harbour without it. Each time the sun shines on it just a little different than the moment before, each time the blue Harbour waters reflect off the tile and glass exterior, it seems to change personality, to change moods.

Fort Denison

In the middle of the Harbour of Sydney is Fort Denison. It was origionally a jail for early convicts, but fast out grew its capacity. Now it stands as a favourite sight seeing point for travellers.

Center Point Tower

Sydney Tower is the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere. Standing at nearly 305 m (1,000 ft) it offers stunning 360-degree views, and on clear days, you can see almost 85 km (53 miles) away. Sydney Tower is a landmark in its own right, and can be seen from almost anywhere in the city, and even far beyond. Sydney Tower consists of Centrepoint Shopping Centre at the base of the tower, 2 revolving restaurants, a coffee shop, and an observation deck in the turret.
