One year, I remember well, I was lying in bed. Christmas was only a few days away. I lay there chanting softly as I drifted to sleep... "I want to see the Real Santa... I want to see the Real Santa". For the next few days, everyone was excited. Christmas day would soon be with us. Those few days seemed to go forever.
Finally Christmas eve was here. We sat near the tree, talking about what we wanted for Christmas. Toy's and clothes seemed to be everyone's wish. It wasn't mine. My Christmas wish was to see the real Santa. Finally, under the tree, we laid out our gifts for Santa. I laid out a glass of milk for Santa, and some cookies. I also laid out 12 carrots for the reindeer's. Finally, I laid out a note.
"Dear Santa. This year I don't want presents. I want my wish to come true. Could you please wake me up so I can see you? I love you"
After that, I crawled into bed, and like all children, was fast asleep.
The tapping on the roof first stirred me from my sleep. I thought it must be someone waking to go potty. I didn't worry about it till I heard the bells. I laid there frozen as I listened to the footsteps moving around the tree. Could it have possibly been Santa?
I closed my eyes tight, and begun my chanting. I want to see the Real Santa. I want to see the Real Santa. As I whispered over and over, my door cracked open. A full voice whispered loudly...
"See me you cant little one, For once you have seen me, My magic is done. You hear the Voice of what you want to see, And in your heart you know, This is the Real Me. Close your eyes and go to sleep, For in the morn your in for a treat."
After the poem, the door closed, and I heard a bellowing laugh as the taps on the roof faded.
I did as told, and was soon fast asleep again. At first light, I jumped out of bed and flew down the stairs. To my suprise, the cookies, milk and carrots were all gone. Then, I looked at my note. Beneath my wish, Santa had written.
"You heard my voice, Your luckier then most. You know my secret, So do not boast. Santa talks in Riddles True, You know Santa's secret Clue!"
There were toys under the tree for us all, but to me, The poems were the greatest gift of all.
