Today, Barney and the children learn about different shapes and colors. First, they create sponge paintings, and they learn how to mix the three primary colors (red, yellow, and blue) to create different ones. Then, they play with different colored hoops, go on a color hunt, and march in a make believe parade with different colored flags.
Sponge printing
Cut circle, square, and triangle shapes out of sponges. Dip the sponge shapes into a small amount of paint. Print on paper (you can use brown paper grocery bags). Let your child talk about the colors and shapes used in the picture.
Make new colors
Use primary color paints (red, yellow, blue). Mix red and a little blue to discover purple, mix yellow and a little blue to discover green, and mix yellow and a little red to discover orange. This is also fun to do with fingerpaints on shiny fingerpaint paper.
Treasure hunt
How many circles, squares, and triangles can you find in the kitchen? In the toy box? In the bedroom? Sort them by shape. Look for things that are your favorite color.
