Bossa
Nova is a gently lyrical music which melodies are generally relaxed and
intimate .It gained worldwide attention through "Black Orpheus " a film
that featured the music of composers Jobim and Luiz Bonfá, making
Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luis Bonfa international stars.Black Orpheus was
the winner in 1959 Cannes Film Festival( Oscar's Best Foreign
Film, and a Golden Globe winner) . It was based on the Orpheus-Eurydice
legend but updated and played against the colorful background of Carnival
in Brazil
During
early 1960s, American jazz musicians embraced Bossa Nova. The result was
a complex musical interaction in which Brazilian musicians drew upon the
conventions of American jazz, and American musicians adopted the rhythms
and approaches of Brazilian music. Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd collaborated
on Jazz Samba (1962), which included a hit version of the Jobim composition
"Desafinado." . In 1963 Getz, Gilberto, and Jobim recorded the classic
Getz/Gilberto album, introducing perhaps the best-known bossa nova song,
Jobim's "The Girl from Ipanema."
