Although no electrical items should be covered, printers and standalone fax machines deserve special mention.
Most printers today use a cut-sheet feeder. Riffle the paper thoroughly before using it, several pages at a time, and possibly riffle the remaining paper in the printer every few days. Many people don't have the patience to do this properly. They riffle the paper just a little, and then they complain about paper jams.
Remove the paper frequently if you live in a damp or humid environment.
Don't send a file to the printer multiple times. If it doesn't print the first time, then find out what went wrong. A computer does not have to be "reminded" to behave.
Sometimes you may be able to send a file to the printer after rebooting.
Thick paper and labels should be printed through the special straight path exit. Look for it in the back of your printer.
