"Park" the inkjet printer heads before turning off the printer so that the nozzles do not become clogged or dry out. Use the printer's on/off switch rather than a power strip or other means. The printer will park the heads if it is turned off properly.
HP inkjet printers seem to have fewer problems with clogged nozzles. Since the HP nozzles are on the cartridge itself, you can "fix" a difficult clogged nozzle problem by replacing the cartridge. Epson printer nozzles are not on the cartridge, so it is sometimes more difficult to resolve the problem.
Try using the software nozzle cleaning procedure. It will waste some ink, but it may get a dried-up or clogged nozzle working again.
