Calculator in Word

Teachers can develop a hidden poor man's calculator in Word as a way of introducing the concept of computer calculations:

Click on Tools, Customize, Command, and ToolsCalculate. Assign an icon to the toolbar.

Now, type some text in Word, with some numbers interspersed. Select the text and the numbers. Look at the bottom of the screen. Word will calculate the total automatically. You can also precede any order with operators: +, -, /, or *, and it will calculate them as well.

Where do you want to go now?
