The things that you would expect a principal to want might be different from what the principal himself wants. It might be a good idea to know what the principal wants, to adjust your expectations to match those of the principal and as a result to be able to get along with the principal better and you'll be considered more of a success, as long as you understand what you need to do.
A principal does not necessarily want good teaching. He wants peace and quiet. He doesn't want to be disturbed. And he wants to know that he has one less headache with your class because things do not have to reach his office.
Thus, if a child disturbs in class, you can certainly send that child to the principal, but the principal is not happy because the principal doesn't want to be bothered. It's better if you try to manage it yourself.
Yes, the principal will come into your class to observe you and at that time he wants good teaching. He also wants to make sure that the parents are satisfied with your level of instruction. Beyond that he really doesn't care about the good teaching itself and it is a rare principal indeed who has the qualities that are required in order to set a good example for proper teaching.
They don't really care. They want to know that your teaching has handled what is necessary so that he won't be disturbed, but beyond that it doesn't matter whether you are a good teacher or not.
Does all of this sound cynical? Does it sound like so how can you make the principal happy? How can you get along well with the principal? The way to do it is to be friendly, cheerful, optimistic, smiling the whole time, and try to demonstrate that nothing really matters, that you don't really care about what's going on and what's happening, and give an aura that everything is completely under control irrelevant of the real situation.
Hope that you have a good enough class so that you can control them properly. Hope that your parents don't disturb you too much and don't come to the principal with complaints. Hope that everything goes smoothly so that you will not have to be involved with the principal at all and you'll have a fine relationship with the principal. If this is not the case and you are involved with the principal in professional issues and matters, then the more that you are involved with him the less comfortable your life will be. If you have a position of authority or an assignment in the school, do try to do it quietly, peacefully, and again, as much as possible without involving the principal.
That's right. The principal is there to decorate the school and not as the person to turn to when there's a problem.
Oh yes, remember that spelling tip? The way that you can tell the difference between principle PLE and principal with a PAL? According to that spelling mnemonic, the way to remember it is by learning that the principal is your PAL.
Forget about it.
