Previous section: They know English

Weekly quizzes are very important when there is constant new material which is taught but it is possible to give them the option of deciding whether they want quizzes weekly, biweekly, or two weeks out of every three. These students generally love these options. Another possibility is to tell them that you’ll only count the top marks. I tell them that I count the 80% of the top marks or the lowest 20% of their grades don't count. If they’re absent for a quiz I don't give them a retest. They do receive a zero on the that quiz but it’s okay because the lowest 20% of their grades don't count anyhow. They are usually very receptive to this option and possibility.
