A page can be distributed with the vocabulary words and their definitions and each word can be studied in turn.

The first part involves the basic reading of the vocabulary term and its definition. The definition should not be simplified. It should use the same words and text as you would find in a professional dictionary. This will give the teachers the opportunity to explain additional words and constructs. The students may not appreciate these options but the procedure is brief. The term and the definition should be explained quickly so that the students understand the way that the words are put together, and their special meanings in this text. The entire definition should then be explained in their mother tongue as rapidly as possible so that they understand the meaning. However, that will not make them love the words. At this point they should have some kind of way to relate that word to their lives.

In the case of professional vocabulary it is extremely important for teachers to be experts in the profession that is being taught and students can then discuss these words as they relate to their professions. They can probably speak about their own experiences using these words and the teacher can explain how these terms relate to additional experiences. In this way a course that includes simple vocabulary can be a summary course for all of the topics discussed in that subject matter.
