Children need to be taught how to study.
There are many distractions available today, especially because of new gadgets and technology. These distractions can be very effective in pulling a child away from the central things that he should be doing - his priorities.
Indeed the goal of all of these distractions is to distract and they do serve a purpose because they can be both entertaining - and there is nothing wrong with a child having some legitimate entertainment - and they have other benefits as well.
One of the most difficult problems with these distractions is that some of them are educational! That's right, the educational toys, games, amusements, and technology is problematic because it gives the children a response when they say they are told that they should not play with these things. The children say, "But I'm playing with an educational game. I'm learning from it."
They're right, of course. However, that is not the specific educational direction that they need at that time. At that time they should be studying the schoolwork that they were assigned.
After completing the schoolwork, then perhaps they will be able to use the educational gadgetry.
It's surprising how many children reject educational gadgetry if they are told that they have to do it after they have completed their assignments and studies. They only use the educational aspect of it as an excuse to avoid doing the things that they are supposed to do.
In other words, this concept of educational gadgets has fooled the parents as well to accepting it, and to allow the children to do what they should clearly not be doing at that time. It also proves that the children really weren't as interested as he thought. They're only using it as an excuse to avoid doing the studies that they should be devoting themselves to at that time.
