Mentoring is also called coaching.
NOTE TO MYSELF: Also add to GEd about mentoring, and link it to GLib.
Librarian coaching
You want your librarian to be successful. However, she may not have the requisite background or education.
Coaching may be the answer.
A good coach may help a librarian become more successful, organized, skillful, and motivated. She will achieve more in less time and with less stress. She will be able to deal with the patrons, and she will be an asset to your organization. She will feel greater satisfaction and comfort in her job. She will be able to understand and focus on priorities.
Although she may learn some of these skills by herself - possibly by intuition, and possibly by associating with other librarians - she can learn the skills much more quickly, efficiently, intensively, correctly, with the assistance of a good coach.
