Disposable spouses

what is wrong with it

Everything today is disposable. We get rid of things that don't work the way we want the very first time. There's no reason to make an effort to help things function correctly. We want instant gratification.

Some cameras are made to be used at a single event and then discarded. Today’s home computers certainly don't last as long as they used to. Manufacturers admit that their cars suffer from built-in obsolescence, in order to sell newer, more exciting, and more glitzy models.

This concept seems to have affected marriages as well. People get married for brief periods and then look around for a newer model.

Perhaps that is one reason why divorces are as common today as rental cars. Many people never did intend to turn their marriage into a long-term investment.

However, you should want your marriage to last. It is therefore important to determine and evaluate your criteria carefully. You will want to assure that your partner matches those criteria as well as possible. That way there will be no reason to search for a "more suitable" match at a later stage.

Where do you want to go now?
