Can you win your child back home?

The best time to win your child back is before he leaves. After that time, it may be necessary to receive professional assistance. Even so, there is no guarantee that your child will return, or whether he will be the same as before. Keep in mind that some children never return home.

In some cases, parental understanding, tender loving care, and a great deal of patience will be sufficient therapy until the difficult period passes.

Keep certain concepts in mind:

Your child will return when and if he is ready, and not necessarily when you are. His schedule may not match yours.

Bribes will not help your child return on a permanent basis. Bribes can only lead to greater bribes. The child who returns under such circumstances will probably leave again in order to extort a greater reward. He will also learn that he can leave home (or rebel) as a way to cover up and gain immediate forgiveness for a misdeed.

Where do you want to go now?
