What information should be given to the child?

That depends. If the child is indeed making a break with the home, then he should be treated as someone who is not privy to any discussions that are held at home. That means that friends, relatives, or acquaintances should give her limited information, based upon the following thoughts, ideas and considerations:

• You did not remove her from her home. She has chosen to leave home, or she was removed by others
• By leaving, she has declared herself to be an outsider, and she should be treated as an outsider
• You don't describe family details to those who are not members of your family. Outsiders are only involved in the most basic joys, sadnesses, failures, and successes.
• Your friends should have no reason to relate information to the child who has left home. She has clearly stated that she is not an insider. Things known to your closer friends are not relevant to and should not be transmitted to your child.
• There is no reason or obligation to satisfy her curiosity about the family.
  • You should act similarly with any other outsider who has rejected you or your family.
  • And she should be given the same very limited information that you would give any outsider who has rejected your family.
  • And your friends and acquaintances should be instructed to limit their information in a similar way.
