What issue does the child select to rebel against?
In this case, for a change, the child does not choose the issue. The topic is not of his choosing.
And in this issue, surprisingly and as opposed to most other issues, it has nothing to do with peer pressure.
Here the child observes the father closely and the child selects the issue based upon his perception of the father's needs and ideas.
Let's say, for example, that the father, and yes, it's specifically the father, let's say that that father has made it clear that schoolwork is important to him. Will the child rebel against skiing? Of course not. The child will rebel against his schoolwork. If the child does not rebel against schoolwork, then it is really not a rebellion. He has to rebel against something that the father holds dear.
Thus, we find that the children of librarians rebel by being disorganized. The children of family therapists rebel by controlling and damaging family relationships. The children of dentists will refuse to brush their teeth so that they will be a bad advertisement for potential patients.
