Honest criticism

a relative,

Many children cannot accept corrections. They sulk when they are told about things they do wrong. This sulking may last for an extended period of time.

Sulking is different for boys and for girls. The issues are the intensity and the duration. It lasts a lot longer with girls than with boys. Take any ten year old girl and ten year old boy and the duration will be shorter with boys. You'll find the same comparison with a fifty year old woman and a fifty year old man.

Few things are as annoying as sulking. The impact is very effective.

Sulking is related to silence. You can react to a child who leaves home with silence.

A child's reaction to something unpleasant by sulking is essentially the same thing - a lack of response in a socially acceptable or expected manner. Both cases reflect different forms of sulking or of silence. The child has learned that a non-response can be stronger than a response.
