There are two ways of dealing with problems. The first way is by fighting it. The second way is by silence.
If you fight the issue you may or may not win. If you are silent you may or may not win. It might go away.
Which path should you take?
You may be good at fighting. You may even enjoy a good fight. You may want to show the other guy a thing or two.
If so, then go ahead and fight. You can be sure that the issue will remain memorable if you fight and it may never be able to go away completely. The loser in the fight will undoubtedly vow revenge and even if the issue does die down, you will have turned it into a memorable issue. However, if you feel that you have a good enough chance to win and a good enough chance to put it to rest afterwards, go ahead and fight.
This is rarely the case of course.
If, however, you have some patience, then you might try a more advanced method: silence. Don't do anything about it. Just let the issue die of its own accord.
In this way, there is more of a chance that it will be forgotten and the issue will disappear as if it never existed in the first place. This is advisable in most cases. Issues do die down if you don't make a fuss about it.
In most cases this is the preferred method.
