A doctorate is becoming more and more useful for prestige. It is undoubtedly questionable whether someone who has that degree is more intelligent. To the contrary, they often may use that in order to cover up the fact that they have less intelligence than others.
With a doctorate it is possible to have the assistance of somebody else to work on the degree itself with you and that way, although you do get the degree, the result is that you have merely gotten a piece of paper but there is nothing to stand behind it. This is the case with many doctorates.
Doctors frequently like to, doctors meaning people with Ph.D.'s, like to strut around and to show off their knowledge. Doctors are sometimes invited to public gatherings in order to speak. When a doctor and someone who does not have the degree get up and speak or give lectures, sometimes it is very difficult to see which is the wiser of the two. Very often the others are wiser.
Doctors sometimes lean on the degree that they have instead of doing the necessary study, research, and preparation because they feel that whatever they say is going to sound important because of their title.
Worse yet, since this title has received such a bad name there are institutions of higher learning that offer honorary doctorates to people. That means that these people don't necessarily know more but they are given the honor of not knowing more. It seems very strange to me to be able to receive such a degree.
