Sensitivity
Kids

Kids develop sensitivities to things that their parents say as well.

The parents may make a statement or a request or a suggestion that does not threaten the child in any way, but the child will be sensitive to these statements.

The child's enhanced sensitivity increases during certain periods of time. There are the terrible two's; there are certain ages of adolescence; and there are certain ages relating to dating and marriage and thereafter in which the children become sensitive to statements made by their parents. This list is not complete and every child has different periods of time during which he demonstrates sensitivity to things made by the parents. Parents sometimes the sensitivities are a result of a demand for acceptance as an independent individual and sometimes they have other reasons but this relationship between a parent and a child can be traced throughout its life as a relationship of sensitivity or not sensitivity. This is unquestionably a major factor in determining whether a parent-child relationship will be successful or not successful.

In any case the sensitivity of the parent as well as the sensitivity of the child and also their combined sensitivities when rubbed against each other are going to have an immense impact on their relationships and on how successful the parent is in parenting and how troubled the child may be with his relationship with his parents.

On a more extended basis the sensitivity may lead to misunderstandings and other issues which can then be a way of mapping and understanding the troubled or not troubled relationships among the larger family unit.

An understanding of these sensitivities by all parties concerned may help to resolve many issues in many families in a very satisfactory and positive way.
