Stress causes disruptions in the classroom.
This page will discuss general issues. Some unique problems occur in Israeli schools.
What is the teacher or school counselor to do?
Clearly, it is important to bring this problem to the parents’ attention. If there is a possibility of working with the parent, fine.
If not, then the burden of raising the child in a socially acceptable manner so that the behavior is acceptable falls upon the school and the teacher.
Is that really their job? Are they equipped to do that? Is it fair that they should have this job?
Of course not.
There must be a re-definition of the job description and the requirements of the educational system in times of stress. At those times the school has to take over the disciplinary activity for a large percentage of the student body.
The reasons for not doing this are clear. It is difficult and patently unfair for the school system to replace the parent.
However, there are excellent and legitimate reasons to do so.
