There is a difference between waiting and longing. You wait for the Mashiach but that doesn't mean that everybody longs for the Mashiach. Longing for the Mashiach is certainly an honorable and fine goal but not everybody is able to reach that level. The concept of longing has something to do with having.
Another issue is whether you have something to do while you are waiting. The author of these articles has articles to prepare while he waits for others. He uses a portable tape recorder to dictate the articles. He has something to do while he waits so the waiting can be bearable.
Yet another issue is how much of that occupation the time that is spent is of value to you. Is the time well spent? If so, then you are less concerned about it. If it is not well spent, if you feel that you have wasted your time then it is a difficult situation.
