Born and raised in Chicago, I was unable to have pets during most of my childhood. There was the occasional one that "followed me home", but these were usually quickly claimed by irate owners! Once the family moved to the suburbs I quickly decided the easiest way to get "my" dog was to buy a Christmas gift for my mother. That gift was the miniature Dachshund that was to eventually introduce me to obedience and the world of pure-bred dogs.

After graduating from H.S. I worked as an apprentice groomer and have groomed dogs off and on since that time. In 1970 I began working for the well-known toy and Dachshund handler Lorraine Heichel Maisley. At one point in time in "our" string of Dachshunds there were three Best-in-Show winners - one in each coat!! Not an easy task for a handler to choose which of the three would go into the group with her on any given day, which with me, and which would probably sit it out on the sidelines. What an education for those 5+ years!! Unfortunately it also lead to 'Dog Show Burn-Out" for a couple of years - but only a couple!

Below are a few links that are of special interest to me and not necessarily related to dogs!
