Double Your Pleasure...
The Chinese Crested comes in two distinct varieties - the Hairless and the Powderpuff. Both varieties are frequently born in the same litter.
The ideal Hairless has soft, silky hair on it's head (the crest), feet and tail only. Many people feel the general appearance of the Hairless is similar to that of a pony. The skin on the Hairless is soft, smooth and it feels warm
to the touch. The actual body temperature is the same as for any other breed of dog. The Powderpuff variety is completely covered with a straight,
soft and silky coat that is of moderate length.
Both the Hairless and the Powderpuff come in a wide range of color and markings. Many individual Hairless dogs change color with the seasons.
Powderpuffs that are born dark frequently change to a color many shades lighter by maturity and then seem to revert back towards the darker color!

Origins...
There are a number of hairless breeds around the world and it is thought all can trace their origins to Africa. As a breed, the Chinese Crested
dates back at least to the 1500's. Ancient Chinese explorers valued these unique dogs and traded them for goods and services in various ports along
their trade routes, thus distributing them worldwide.
The breed was first exhibited in the U.S. at the Westminster Kennel Club in 1885. The next 100 years showed little interest in this breed but that
was about to change! In 1965 the Chinese Crested was dropped from the Miscelleaneous Class, then reinstated in 1986 due to the efforts of a number
of Crested fanciers.Full A.K.C. recognition was granted as of April 1, 1991, with the Crested competing in the Toy Group.

Personality Plus...
The Chinese Crested is an 11"-13" elegant, graceful animal resembling a small horse or pony. They are extremely agile and alert, and make excellent
watchdogs. Very intelligent and devoted, they can excel in all phases of doggy activities from pure companionship to obedience to agility. With their
charming, playful personalities they make excellent family dogs for young and old alike.
Grooming in both varieties is kept to a minimum. Shaving of the ears and face is optional in both varieties. A weekly brushing and judicial use of
a comb keeps most Puffs looking great. Regular baths with a gentle soap are a must, and the addition of a creme rinse for the Puffs is helpful. The
Hairless also benefit from a touch of hand lotion after bathing. Summer brings need of a good sunscreen while winter brings the need for adequate covering
when in the cold for any length of time.Extra care must also be given to the teeth and gums of the Hairless. They tend to have softer teeth that are
frequently lost at an early age.
